Jesus warns us to pray that … Which teachers us of a truth that still stands.
“But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:” Matthew 24:20.

Many believe the lie of the deceiver, that the Sabbath was done away with. Yet the Sabbath day was still important when Jesus gave the verse above. The Sabbath day is so important to Jesus, that He does not want His people to flee on His Blessed Sabbath day, during the last days of this sinful world. Jesus did warn us to pray about this very difficult time, before He returns to take us home.
Chapter 24 is a chapter full of the signs before Jesus will return the second time. If the Sabbath was to be done away with, Jesus would not have warned us to pray that our flight would not be on the sabbath day.
When we contemplate on this verse, the truth is revealed. This verse teaches truth of the Sabbath, and it also teaches the importance of the seventh day of rest that was blessed and Sanctified by God. See Genesis 2:1-3. So much so, that Jesus does not want His people to flee on the Sabbath. The Sabbath was never done away with by God, nor was it done away with by Christ Himself. The seventh day Sabbath stands today, and Jesus asks us to pray that our flight not be on the Sabbath day. “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.” Hebrews 4:9. Rest is another name for Sabbath.

The Strong’s Concordance gives the Greek translation to the word rest as 4520 sab-bat-is-mos’ : – that is, (figuratively) the repose of Christianity (as a type of heaven): – rest. From a derivative of the Greek 4521, the Sabbath (that is, Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); by extension a se’nnight, that is, the interval between two Sabbaths; likewise the plural in all the above applications: – sabbath (day), week. Of Hebrew origin H7676; intermission, that is, (specifically) the Sabbath: – (+ every) sabbath. Which is an Intensive from H7673; A primitive root; to repose, that is, desist from exertion; used in many implied relations (causatively, figuratively or specifically): – (cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, keep (sabbath), suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away. We are to rest on the day of rest, Sabbath. Our work is to be laid aside, and we are to cease from our labour, which requires taking rest from our physical or mental workload for money or around the home. Note Exodus 16:27-30; 20:8-11; 23:12; 34:21; Hebrews 4:1-13.
The Bible is meant to be studied and studied building on the precepts of God’s Word. Note Isaiah 28:9,10, 13. We are not to be taking away from God’s Word. “And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Revelation 22:19. “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:18-19.

The Sabbath has been rejected by the hearts of the people who have fallen to the lies of the deceiver himself & those who reject God at His Word; which includes the rejection of the Ten Commandments. Why? Because if we reject or break one, we break all. “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:19.
We cannot take that which is written and given by God and do away with it, as Jesus said, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.” Matthew 5:17. Once rejection takes place the fall begins, people wondering about unaware they are deceived. We need to pray God, in the name of Jesus Christ for the Holy Spirit to do the work in the hearts of mankind to help them see and accept truth, God’s Word, at His Word. Many are turning to the Holy Scriptures to study for themselves, because the Spirit of God is drawing man’s hearts to see much confusion in Christianity, and they are searching and looking for the truth of God’s Word.

The deceiver is Satan himself and those that do his bidding. “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Revelation 12:9. “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;” Ephesians 4:14. “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1.
“And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” Revelation 12:17.
“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Revelation 14:12.
“But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:” Matthew 24:20.
