In Truth, Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth.

The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. Psalms 145:17-18.

Jesus said, But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.  John 4:23-24.

The saying, “there is safety in numbers,” is true to a point, as it is for the animal kingdom. Yet can it be possible with humanity? Only depending on the circumstances. When it comes to the truth of God’s Word, it is safer to walk in small, well selected groups that are following the Truth of God’s Word. In Faith, in truth, we may even need to choose to walk alone if there is no group to join, in truth, although this is not the best for us. However, there are some who have no other choice due to laws in the country they live. It is unsafe to walk in the faith of another person’s faith without studying the Word of God for oneself. Nor is it safe at all, to walk in the faith of another, or in a larger populated group if they are not walking in truth. For it is God’s Word we must trust and obey.

King David told his son Solomon, “… keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:”  I Kings 2:3. These words of wisdom are also for us today.

John rejoiced greatly when he heard about elder Gaius, who walked in truth, these words are God’s words. God rejoices greatly when we walk in truth. As it is written, “For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 3 John 1:3-4. God’s plea is “O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!” Deuteronomy 5:29.

Revelations 14:12, tells us that the saints are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus: as it reads, “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Now, the faith of Jesus is in the Commandments of His Heavenly Father. Yes, this includes the Law of God in Exodus 20:1-17. The only laws that were done away with, was at the cross were the ceremonial laws that pointed to the sacrificial Lamb of God, in which Christ Jesus fulfilled at the cross. Jesus said, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Matthew 5:17-18.

Jesus also said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”  Matthew 7:21. … For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. Matthew 12:50.

Sadly today, there is so much confusion regarding what people claim to be truth. Yet the only way to know “the truth” is to study the truth in God’s Word. Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name; Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:2-3. We are to call upon Him to learn His truth, and we do this in truth. “The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” Psalms 145:18. The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way. All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. Psalms 25:9-10.

My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.  1 John 3:18-24.

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.  And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:30-31.

A very important fact, we as believers must remember, when studying the word of God, and that is; when the Bible was being translated into English from the original Hebrew and Greek, there was no verses, or numbers, nor was there punctuation. So, to sum up the commandments as Jesus did, the first four of the Ten Commandments are the first commandment Jesus gave; they are related to a loving relationship with God. The last six of the Ten Commandments are the second commandment; they are related to a loving relationship with our fellow man, thy near neighbour. When we understand this important fact, we are able to rightly divide the word of truth, with the truth, which we also need to remember that “precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:” Isaiah 28:10. Then shall God teach us knowledge, and he shall help us to understand doctrine, when we are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts, we are able to receive the solid Word of truth, in truth, from truth.  Note Isaiah 28:9. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.  Hebrews 5:12-14.

We must “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  2 Timothy 2:15.

David’s prayer, “For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone. Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.  Psalm 86:10-12.

Jesus said, “… blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”  Luke 11:28.

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.  Revelations 22:14.
