The Counsel Of The LORD.

This world has all kinds of counsel, yet it’s not all good, nor trustworthy. Today we have internet search platforms that are loaded with information. On these search platforms there is an abundance of counsel from professionals that past their knowledge on. And yes, there are some people who just put out a lot of rubbish, in which, for some reason, people believe and follow, all this to gain ratings to earn money. The professional knowledge that is given, is to help people with all sorts of issues in which the professional believes their counsel and advice will benefit others in need. Regardless of the subject, there is someone out there that has posted their counsel on the subject, for example: – gardening, computer, the right tool for certain jobs, to medical, weight loss, and yes, even Biblical studies or subjects, travel, health, money & finances, raising children, education, careers, to name a few.

In all the counsel given in this world, there is but one we can truly trust, and that is the only counsel that has served well, yes, long before the internet or printing presses, even before sin came into this world; yes, that is the Counsel of the LORD.

The LORD’s counsel was given in love and knowledge which comes with strength, trust, hope, which does not fail, nor does it diminish in any way from the time it was given, to the end of this world. In Proverbs there is lots of counsel given; chapter 19:21 tells us, “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.”

By using the Strong’s Concordance, it will teach us the deeper meaning of the words used in the King James Bible. The KJV used the best words to give deeper meaning, that cover a variety of words that teaches us it is not just a simple word. The Strong’s Concordance teaches us what the word “devices” means. The meaning is: – a contrivance, that is, (concretely) a texture, machine, or (abstractly) intention, plan (whether bad, a plot; or good, advice): – cunning (work), curious work, device (-sed), imagination, invented, means, purpose, thought.

The Strong’s Concordance tells us that the word “Counsel” means: – advice; by implication plan; also prudence: – advice, advisement, counsel ([-lor]), purpose.

Both these words have the same words “advice and plan” in there meaning. Yet one is trustworthy and the other we do not fully know if it is, or not, trustworthy. The King James Bible uses words that hold the greatest meaning. Where other Bible translations may use one of the words within the meaning of a word. By doing this it really breaks down the message of the text. One thing we all should remember is that WORDS are meant to be studied.

Some say that the King James Bible is hard to understand; yet truly, with the tools we have today, like the Strong’s Concordance, written to help with Bible study and the meaning of the Greek and Hebrew words to English words within the KJV Bible, we can go deeper into each word. The KJV, if studied, it is the easiest to understand, and the one that has the best words that give us the greatest meaning. Although this Study Gem is not about the best Bible translations, it is about God’s Counsel. Yet if we are truly wanting to follow in God’s Counsel, it is good to study the KJV and learn to study the words used within. It does not take long to realise by studying the difficult words within the KJV with the Strong’s Concordance, the word’s meaning will reveal the depth of the word itself, which then deepens the understanding of God’s Counsel.

In the Scriptures of God’s Counsel we are told, “The entrance of thy (God’s) words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” Psalms 119:130. We need not a man to teach us, (Note the last Study Gem written), for the scriptures tell us that “… the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” 1 John 2:27. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.  Psalms 118:8-9.

Here are some Bible verses that teach us about God’s Counsel.

The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect. The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. Psalms 33:10-11.

A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps. Proverbs 16:9.

Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. Proverbs 11:14.

And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; Isaiah 11:2.

Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?  Isaiah 40:13-14.

But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. Luke 7:30.

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. Romans 11:33-36.

Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. Ephesians 1:9-12.

Wherein God, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, … Hebrews 6:17-18.

I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. Revelation 3:18.

Sadly today, in some Christian circles, people prefer to seek the advice from people who preach and teach, or wrote about or who are writing about, the Counsel of God. Instead of having faith enough to truly trust in God’s direct Counsel from His Word, some people prefer to trust those, that seem to them, to be educated in the Word of God. Even more sadly, when people use man’s written word about the Counsel of the LORD, they call the written words about God’s Counsel, counsel, of that person who wrote about God’s Counsel.

When we are talking or writing about the Word of God, we are simply sharing God’s Counsel. We do not own God’s Counsel, and we should not shift our eyes, nor heart, from God, to those who are sharing God’s Counsel.  We indeed can claim God’s Counsel within our heart and walk in the blessed Counsel God has given us in His Word. And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.  And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.  Deuteronomy 6:5-7.

As those before us called upon the LORD our God, which served them well, we too should do the same. Note Psalms 99:6, “Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them.    The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.  Psalms 145:17-18.

When we pray to God and ask and require of Him, we are seeking His Counsel. This is the best counsel we can seek. When we study God’s Word, we are studying the Counsel of God. We just simply need to trust God at His Word. The scriptures tell us to, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.” Proverbs 3:5-8. We need to trust God, believe That His Counsel is worth living in and even dying for. Just as Job himself did, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.” Job 13:15. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?  Psalms 27:1.

We need to ask ourselves and apply the same question that was asked in Jeremiah 23:18. For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it? Jeremiah 23:18. If we truly are God’s people we would choose daily to walk in His Counsel. We can not do anything within ourselves, but to choose to walk in God’s Counsel and study His Counsel daily. For the promise of God is, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” Psalms 32:8. The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way. All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. Psalms 25:9-10.

Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:  Isaiah 46:9-10.
