Most people of faith have heard or know of the Bible verse that says, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7
The start of this verse, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked:” is a warning that we all should take heed to. While we can apply this verse to many things, in this Gem, I would like to look at the things we believe in, or hear about, regarding the Word of God. We need to take heed and make sure we do not deceived ourselves, nor allow ourselves to be deceived by others. When we do, God is mocked; we do not want to mock God. Yet, when we lean on our own understanding, in the Word of God, we mock God, and deceive ourselves. We may have been taught by someone else that was leaning on their own understanding. These are both reasons why we need to study the Bible for ourselves with sincerity of heart, to seek, with prayer, asking of God our Father, for the Holy Spirits guidance, always asking in the name Jesus Christ. We do not want to mock God, nor teach others the wrong things, as they learn from us, they may end up believing the same deceit we have fallen into. The last past of this same verse tells us why, “for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Read Proverbs 3:5-6; 2 Timothy 4:1-4; 2 Peter 2:1
We see this in the story of Daniel and the lion’s den. Please read Daniel chapter 6 to see the full story played out.
The King was deceived by his own men. They mocked God by making the King believe that he, an earthly king, could be prayed to. The men, with urgency, make a plea to the King to have the decree signed and sealed that it could not be changed in any way; this was done with flattery and the king fell into their plan. When the king was told that Daniel disobeyed the law he had decreed, the king tried to save Daniel. The deceivers reminded the King that the Law could not be changed in any way. Sadly, the King had to go ahead with the punishment that fell upon Daniel, because of his faithfulness to God. As you read the men end up reaping what they sowed.
In this story we can learn so much about mankind and God. We learn the behaviour of evil men / people and their reward. We learn that the law of some earthly Kings cannot be changed. Also, we learn of the care a person can have for another. The most important things we learn is of the faith, love, and obedience people can have for God and how God protects His faithful. The book of Ester is another story that teaches the same thing.
When it comes to God’s Word, we need to make sure we are not deceived. One thing we must know, and remember is, … know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. Ecclesiastes 3:14. My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Psalms 89:34. For I am the LORD, I change not; … Malachi 3:6 And God’s Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, is the same way; as the Scriptures says that “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Hebrews 13:8. When we follow the law, precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: God will reveal Himself to us and keep us on the straight path of truth. Therefore, when God set His law, the Ten Commandments for instance, not one of those laws can be changed. If an earthly King cannot change his laws, what makes people think God is so easily changeable; especially after He has told us, “For I am the LORD, I change not;” … Malachi 3:6. My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Psalms 89:34.
If God will not alter the thing that is gone out of His lips; man should not, nor cannot change God’s Law. Even if man does change God’s Law, it has no standing. No true follower of God’s Law would keep a changed law that a man changed and not God. We Know God will not change. Therefore, we need to stand in what God has said; as in, a thus saith the LORD.

The enemy of God, Satan, “… your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”. Therefore, we are call to “Be sober, be vigilant; …” so we do not fall into the evil one’s hands, which is the enemy of God. Quoted 1 Peter 5:8. Daniel was vigilant, sadly, the King was not. Knowing and trusting God at His Word, that His Word is truth, and He changeth not; and knowing that His Son is the same, “yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”, will make us free. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Jesus came to be the Punishment for our sins, our Sacrifice, our Lamb, “ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32 … If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36. Read and note what is been said in John 8:31-47. Also note, 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 4:1. John 14:6.
We must always remember that God does not change, nor does He change His Word as time goes on. Yet, at His Word, Prophecies are fulfilled and accomplished as time goes on. Which also helps us to see His Word Stands and we can trust every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God, by which man doth live. Quoting Deuteronomy 8:3 and Matthew 4:4.
Trust in God, praying with sincerity of heart, to seek Him and believe Him at His Word. Remember to be sober and vigilant, walk-in truth, so that we are not deceived nor end up mocking God; always remembering that it is the Truth, that shall make you free.
Free indeed. John 8:36
